I have a 88 kzp1000 that clutch was slipping . I changed the friction plates and the metal plates looked OK so I reused them. I assembled it and it still slips. Are the metal plates the problem or could I have done something wrong? I replaced the springs too. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Did you use the instructions in the Kawasaki Service Manual to adjust the clutch?

What motor oil are you using?

Did you check the clutch adjuster inside the sprocket cover. It may be sticking. If it's the worm gear type, it needs to be greased and adjusted yearly or when you replace the cable.

You need a factory manual. The others use a "shot gun" approach and there are errors.

Is the Penzoil motorcycle oil? In other words, does it have the JASO-MA designation on the container? If not, it more than likely is automotive oil with friction modifiers that will damage wet clutches. Definitely make sure whatever oil you use has JASO-MA marked on the container. Ed

In what direction are you turning the clutch release adjusting screw? Manuals are sometimes ambiguous in that regard.
On many 80s models you're supposed to turn it counterclockwise first until hard to turn, then clockwise 1/4 turn.

You may have the EZ pull style. The one with the ball bearings and ramp. In any event you should open it up, lube it set it at the relaxed position, put it together and start again. Might be simple as that or a sticky cable.
