1979 kz650sr

I am currently rebuilding the charging system on my kz650sr i believe it is a single phase stator. So i ordered the part and had it shipped, when i went to replace it i found a three phase stator hooked up! Im at a loss and help, or insight would be appreciated

Can you post a photo of your bikes generator parts and also post the engine serial number (it's stamped near the oil filler cap)? That may help us identify what you have. Ed

I will post photos today after work, i think i figured out how to install the the single stage stator and rectifier, but will deffinately put up pics of bolth first

If you have a three phase system, I'd keep it.

Ok so the regulator came with a harness two yellow one black and a red not attatched to harness. The stator came with only two yellow and no harness. I clipped harness off and wired the yellows together, attatched the red to the battery, common sence told me to attatch the black to the negative on battery but im not sure because the black wire was origionally attatched to the harness. Any thaughts and imput much appreciated

So i have realized that my engine and frame does not match up, frame kz650d2. And engine kz750 year unknown

That's a problem on several fronts I think??
However there's not a ton of differences 650 to 750 and most are probably documented on this site

Yes i have. So now i did an ohm check on the old stator origionally removed got a good reading on all three yellow wires .9 to 1 ohm, nothing grounding out so i re installed it with the old regulator all with new connectors and wires. Which i suspect was the problem in the first place, gonna charge the battery and give it another go in a couple days. O and if anybody can tell me what year this motor is it would be much appreciated.
