KZ550 header problem was created by Djckay
Hello all,

My 1980 KZ550a header is broken, missing the last 3.8" of flaired out pipe on the engine side of cylinder #2. The #2 has a slight exhaust leak as the split collar is not pushing the pipe all the way into the copper gasket. Wish I could provide a picture, but I dont feel like taking the pipes back off at the moment. It is overly loud because of the exhaust leak. Is this sort of thing repairable? Would a bike shop be able to weld a small bit back in? Or am I going to be looking for a full new header?
Thanks

3/8" or 3.8" ?

Any decent tig welder worth a salt should be able to scarf a repair joint in there and grind it to fit if it is just the flanged part.

Yeah the last 1/4" to 3/8" bit where the header flanges out. I dont know much about welding, seems like a rather small bit to work with

Is the entire flanged end of the end gone?

Yeah, just the bit where the pipe flanges out. The straight part is all there, just the flange that is gone.
