Will this exhaust fit on my bike? was created by TheForumTroll
Hello again experts :side:

I'm sitting here without my service manual or bike and trying to figure out what kind of mufflers will be a relative easy fit to a kz700 (as close to bolt-on as possible) but I have no idea what to look for. Anyone know if something like this will fit:

The stock KZ700 mufflers have recesses in them --- not sure if the recesses are for center stand clearance or axle clearance or what. ???

On the back/inside? That's a good question. I would guess it is for the centre stand ..

After checking some pics, the recesses seem to be pretty far back, so I think they're for the swing arm or axle & axle nut clearance. The KZ700 mufflers angle in, so clearance may not be an issue w/ aftermarket.

If your original exhaust system is in good shape don't cut it. It is worth $$$. If that is the case you would be better off selling it and buying a whole new exhaust system. Not only will you be assured that everything will work properly; you may even come out ahead on the deal depending on the condition of the original system. Ed

He's kinda fortunate as the KZ700 stock mufflers are clamped in place, so trying something different is easy.

Thanks; I didn't know that. That sure does make it easier! Too bad the KZ650 exhaust isn't made that way as it sure would make it simple to replace a damaged muffler. Ed

A muffler like that instead of the original would likely make the bike run more lean, right? It is already lean so if it does I might have to fix that.

The 4-1 systems typically flow more air, but I have no idea how the universal fit mufflers perform. I guess install new spark plugs at the same time & go for a test ride, then check the plugs. Or since the carbs are already lean, maybe go ahead & increase the jets a size or two, then do the test ride thing. ???
