1977 kz 1000C cam specs? was created by elkbuster
Hi guys & gals,

I am in need of cam specs for the above cam. I just swapped out the cams from a 1977 to a 1980 kz 1000c engine. Is this swap doable? I need the specs as I put APE adj. cam sprockets on. I did stay with the 32 sprockets as opposed to the 30t sprockets that were in the 1977 motor. Any advice is appreciated.

All cams from z1 to mk2 are the same spec with a little variation due to manufacturing tolerances so this is a straight swap.
Set timing at 110 degrees for std spec.

i have not timed cams before and I am running into problems. So I find TDC on the exhaust cam. I set the camwheel to 0 deg after finding true TDC I then set the dial guage on the #1 exh cam bucket and turn engine in normal clockwise position until I find where the valve is open at the peak rise of the cam. Once I find peak rise in cam, I set the dial indicator to "0". I record degrees from the cam degree wheel at this point. This is where I get confused on the next step. Can you walk me through the rest of the procedure?

Here's a link to one of many sites that explain the procedure. ( much quicker than me typing it all out).
www.muzzys.com/articles/lobe_centers.html
Read through it step by step several times and it will become clear.
It's not hard to do once you get the hang of it.
The trickiest part is rigging up the dial gauge pointer to stay on and follow the valve bucket smoothly and you may need to make up a special fixture to mount the gauge on to the head.
