Correct Valve Clearance Measurement KZ1100
01 Apr 2015 07:27 - 01 Apr 2015 07:31
I am in process of rechecking my valves and started looking closer at my FSM and if gives two different ways to measure the valve clearance and I get two different values based on this. Which one should I be basing my clearances on. I originally based it on crank position and measured appropriately from there. But if I base on the second way some of them exceed .15mm.

Measure with the lobe pointing 180 degrees away from the shim.
This ensures you are measuring on the base circle.
Readings slightly over 0.15mm won't do any harm but may run a little noisier when cold.
up to 0.18mm is fine and 0.20mm with high lift cams.
