KZR Valve Shim Exchange

11 Mar 2015 09:24
#664080
Over the years this topic seems to come up from time to time. We need a dedicated thread to valve shims, for members to buy, sell and swap valve shims. Under bucket, 29mm, and the rare and elusive 32mm shims for the KZ twins. I have quite a few under bucket shims and some 29mm, and I am going to need some 29mm ones soon. I will put up I list of what I have. If anyone else is looking for shims post it here...
If I knew what I was doing all the time life wouldn't be any fun.

Since the valves tighten with mileage, the fat shims accumulate and the thin ones are in constant demand. :side:

I think the best way is for people to list what they have on hand in one post and then just keep editing it as inventory changes. That would keep this thread smaller and easier to see who has what. Just send a PM if you want to swap or buy form someone. Padded envelopes are only a buck or two and postage is cheap compared to buying new ones, especially if you need a lot of them.

Here is what I have

Under Bucket
( I have quite a few will update later)

29mm
(Will update soon)

There are cases when valve stems get tipped after a valve job and you need the fat ones too..

Ill offer a 2 for 1 trade on 29mm shim over bucket (stock kz900/1000) to anyone who has the following shims that I need, Trades need to be for 4 or more shims that I receive, so you would be getting 8. Sorry, I'm not doing 1's and 2's
215
255

My inventory to trade with as of 3/12/15 is 139 individual shims,

260 x 7
265 x 34
270 x 48
275 x 20
280 x 20

I'm still re accumulating shims. Mine were lost to, well just say lost. I'm buying mine from jetsrus for around $10 a piece. When I tip my valves, I will have the smaller sizes available. This is a good idea. Organize in profile? I'll be watching.

Z1 used to have some of the rare 32mm shims (used) and you could find some new ones on ebay for about $20 apiece in a few sizes.

The problem is that in the old heads, they have been cut in so far that they can't tip the valve ends far enough to get them to work with a standard shim so they need the thin ones.

That's why I chose to lap in my new valves. I had a three angle valve grind done before I parked it on the early 90's. It had less than 10,000 miles on it then. I was using 240/230's then. That's what I have on the intakes now but I'm down to 225/210 on the exhaust now. Time to tip them but it will only buy a little more time. I'll buy a complete head when I can find/afford one. I WON'T buy a bare one.
