Engne clean up and paint was created by ThatGPzGuy
Hey Gang, I have the starter clutch rebuilt and am ready to reassemble and put the engine back in the frame. I want to degunk and re-paint the engine before it goes back in. What is the best way to do this? I can get it ouside and I have a pressure washer but the header is off and so are the carbs. Is there a way to get this thing clean where I am not at risk of introducing water into it? Wouldnit be better to wait until it is back in the frame and clean and paint it then?

I paint the crankcases and covers when the engine is split. It is a lot of prep work to degrease and key the surface properly. You could do it in one piece with careful prep and masking.

Painting the motor in frame will be a bodge, don't event think about it.

GPz750R1 ? very cool.

Yeah, if I was taking the engine completely apart it would not even be a question. I have the clutch cover and chain cover and prepped for paint along with the oil pan. it's the rest of the engine that needs to be cleaned up. Right now now it is upside down on my bike stand so I can get at the starter clutch.
I guess I need to figure out a way to seal it up so I can scrub it down without getting water in it.
I think you are right about painting it in the frame...
