I got a wild hair and before taking off the clutch side (which seems inevitable now) I put the cover back on over the drive chain sprocket and wanted to be sure I could shift into gears. Well it seems like my clutch plates may be stuck together because I can not get it into gear. I checked the throw out for the clutch shaft and it actuates ok but i will grease it but it should have actuated fine for me to push it into gear. So Im thinking my clutch plates are stuck anyone have a thread on this procedure?

Not sure on the twins for sure but the 4 cylinder kz models starting in 1979-80 have a feature that only lets you select nuetral and first when the engine isnt running. Stuck clutch plates only keep the clutch from releasing properly (bike never releases trans) the forks and gearset are seperate.

my bikes; 80kz1000(project), 77 gl1000, 74 h2 (project)
Past; 78 kz1000, 83 kz550

Hmm i cant get first even. Ill re build the throw out bearing and see it it is the problem after all possibly i wasnt able to disengage it enough. BUt i should be able to shift through the gears without the clutch being pressed in shouldnt I?

I spun the sprocket while holding the gear shifter down and it allowed me into first. Tried to do the same procedure to 2nd but it wouldnt grab so this must be what you were referring to
