Its because the nut goes into a pocket into the engine cases and therefore is not accessible by conventional tools. The teardrop shape keeps it from spinning when tightening the engine mounting bolt.

Make sure the screw going into that nut isn't too long, or it could poke through the engine case.

Here's the nut that is being talked about. If I am remembering correctly it's used on the bottom righ side of the engine under the ignition cover.
