Ok, so here's the story. I was showing my little nephew (7 yrs old) how to change a spark plug. I let him do it all by himself while I went to the washroom, when I came back he did it right, (of course I showed him several times how to do it first) I was happy. Then I told him to start the bike for me, he pulled the choke and hit the starter and yay she started up. BUT, theirs oil leaking out the spark plug, the one he did. I pulled it out, what do you need it's stripped. He told me it seemed harder then the others to do. None the less, my fault should of been there.

LONG STORY SHORT, it's finished. I got a spare head coming in a month or 2 (grandfather has a motor in parts he doesn't want to ship he's too old to know how that stuff works.) For now, while I work on the bike can I just put a kind of O-ring around the spark plug to seal the gap where the plug squirts out oil? IT still fires fine just oil is pissing everywhere.

I could use a helicoil but they seem REALLY messed up, I don't really feel like spending the 100$ and find out it's too finished..

Hope somebody can help me! thanks.

OH, PS : It's a 1984 KZ550 LTD, and out of the blue, I want to change the lube in the shaft, what kind of lube do you guys suggest? It's northern Ontario here so keep in the mind the cold weather.

Thanks guys one day this bike will run fine.. One day..

Wouldnt helicoil with the head on anyway; but if you have a problem mickey mousing it wont help you

Either helicoil it as a temp, tear down and swap heads or stop trying to ride before you get stranded

I do agree on on doing some cheap temporary fixes because it always ends up bad - But i'm not riding the bike, theirs 6 feet of snow outside and it's just to tune it.

And why would you not reccomend heli coil with the head on? I asked my local shop they see if you do it with the engine warm the little particles that fall down get burned and spit out through the exhaust if you start it up right after. I don't know wether this is to screw me over, or true, just a question.

Thanks again

WARNING!! The following post is my very own ignorant-azz opinion, based on nothing but a few random fire brain cells.

If the temperature in the combustion chamber is high enough to burn up the aluminum chip debris from the spark plug hole repair, then I reckon it would be hot enough to melt the aluminum head the chips came from.

No right minded person would knowingly introducemetal shavings to the interior of their engine.

Several folks here prefer timecerts to helicoils. Some say they make perfectly good spark plug hole repairs.

Cool, i'll check that out for now then. I'm just looking for open ideas/ personal experience. I just quite believed the shop because the metal is very fine, but at the same time it is hard to believe, if you get what i'm saying. I'll just wait the 2 months for the head, screw it i'll be patient.

Thanks for the help guys appreciate it.

Blew it out when i was drilling and removing a broken off plug, then pulled the head, glad i did, tried grease etc.
Now i was a shop mechanic for 7 years and did this all the time, probably always looks the same
