Hello

Due to moving the workshop im in a lot of cleaning and throuwing out have been done.... but then when i went through the KZ boxes i found a lot of old cams and started to measure/check up on them and found almost all grinds from 1981- 1984
Standard Z1000J/R1 (1 slot where the tachodrive is on KZa)
280gr.8,4mm lift.
280gr. 8,8mm lift.
Z1000 cam sprocket
Standard Z1000R2/Z1100B (3 slot where the tachodrive is on KZa)
288gr.8,8mm lift.
Z1100B cams sprocket
Standard GPz1100 Uni Track (no slot where the tachodrive is on KZa)
300gr.9,6mm løft.
Z1100B cam sprocket
I have only measured the lift not the Duratation
And these are European Specs as fare as I know!!!

But but im also having an old KZ900 with 1045 wiseco kit but it need a new head in which i found a few weeks ago.... heavely ported (more than my PSP stage 1 head) and with around 38mm inlet valves and 31mm exhaust valves..

My question is which cams would you pair for use on street/little strip??

Heard that due to the long 300" duratation on the UT cams i would be good to pair with a 280/288 to keep some bottom torque when 'only using wiseco 1:10.25 pistons

Please drop an opinion or experience

Interesting post:

You are correct on the duration.

The higher the duration 270 degrees and up are more likely a high RPM / TOP END cam. The high duration cams tend to have a lobe with a pronounced gradual slope.

Lower duration cams 250 degrees will have a sharp point looking lobe. Lower duration cams will tend to be a around good cam with a pronounced low end and mid-range.

If you look at my setup, my cam is .395 lift and 280+ duration and pulls from 4000 to 11,500 it is a good street-able setup with stronger top end with very high RPM strength. It will not float valves at or over 12,000 rpm.

I would like to know what carbs you have to offer up, header? pods? elec ignition?

I would send head to Larry and have him check it out on the bench and run some flow numbers. This is a process where you need head, cam and carbs working in concert with each-other.

Im leaving in Denmark so shipping to the states is pretty expensive, and this only gonna be a engine build of funny parts i find, due to its a spare i got cheap from a damage bike !!

Just find the grind on the gpz 83-85 very radical compared to when i look through all the grinds from Andrews!?!?

Think the carbs gonna be the BS34 or maybe RS34 but dont know and same with the heater, but probably more or less open 4in2 or 4in1...
ignition i always use the Dyna S

You have experince with gpz 83-85 cams???

The little I know about these cams....the 83 year was the hot cam for a KZ swap.

It advertised a .385 lift on both intake and exhaust, sorry but don't know the duration of these. Great street cam.

These are not drop in cams and you will need to clearance the head to keep lobes from contacting the valve bucket walls of the head. Might have to clean up top of valve cover also.

108 to 110 on lobe center for street use, I like setting at 110

Ill Google a bit around to see if any have any 'funny' setup for these cams!!

But Why did Kawa go with 300" when all aftermarks max goes to 290" ???

I've got what I think are 300 degree zx1100 cams in my gpz1100B motor, can''t see any other modification. Yes, they are very radical, I think the last model 120 bhp 150mph zx1100 unitrack they were just wringing every last drop of peak power out of it by sacrificing some bottom end tourque..

Wild cams will reduce your bottom end grunt, but you get a very strong rpm power almost like a two stroke.
The bike was arm wrenchingly fast, but lacked that brutal GSX1100 type bottom end grunt.

1980 Gpz550 D1, 1981 GPz550 D1. 1982 GPz750R1. 1983 z1000R R2. all four aces

Would just be boring to loose bottom end torque..
Maybe i should go with 2 indlet J-cams 280" / 8,8mm lift.... recon a heavly ported head with bigger inlet valves would be a killer on 'only' 1045cc / 10.25:1 wiseco pisons if you drop in a pair of gpz1100 cams...

on my friends GPZ1100 you can switch between bottom and rpm power if you time it 1 tooth differently
