KZ1100 Aftermarket Head

I recently purchased a 1982 KZ1100-A2 and I was told by the PO that is had some type of race head, but I can't find any special marking on it besides 2-2 on top of it. Any insight on how to determine if it is or if he was talking out of his butt  .

Any Head can be called a Race head, if it has been modified from stock specs, with porting , oversized valves heavy duty springs, race Cams, ETC, ETC,

In used bikes , a ''worked' head could be anything from a skim or cleaning up the ports with a dremmel, right up to full race spec. It is one of those areas that people often bullshit about, particularly if the work was not done by them. Fitting a later gpz head with bigger valves and hotter cams is also possible.

(Yoshimura used to do exchange stage 3 heads: gas flowed, ported and big valves, titanium collets and race springs. The 596cc were making 1000cc superbike F1 qualifying times.)

He had a specific company name, can't remember now. Was there specific heads made by other companies for this bike? Also what does the stock head for markings have?

all original heads are sent to 2nd or 3rd party companies to do the work.depending on what you need...is what was done.
as far as # on heads i do not know ..dont think the engine cases , block , heads have the same #. and i dont have an engine paart either to see.
my brother would port his own heads......his friend had a machine to cut the seat and valve , etc.

By any chance does it use 8 spark plugs? Maybe it has been dual plugged by kzzone (APE). Ed

VOREX made heads for the KZ .
They were mainly for the serious top fuel drag racer etc.
They were taller and won't fit in to a stock KZ frame without hitting the top tubes.
They have massive ports and valves and the finning is shallow and chunky much like APE/WISECO big blocks etc.
They could never be confused with a modified stock head.
Posting a pic would identify one instantly.

I guess I won't know unless I tear into it but no plans to due to excellent leak down numbers I got.

If it's in a stock framed road bike it won't be a Vortex.
Most likely you have a ported head by one of the well known tuners if the PO quoted the name as a selling point.
