Horsepower loss with jackshaft swingarm. was created by tomsbadkz
I am in the process of building my 77 KZ1000. Im doing a really nice street 1327cc with a Larry Cavanaugh prepped GPZ head. Was wondering if anyone would have any ideas how much power I would lose with running a jackshaft 300 swingarm. As you know it is a counter sprocket to arm and chain to wheel. I know there will be some loss. I didn't know if anyone here has done run a dyno on a bike with a regular arm and then the jackshaft type arm and the difference at the wheel between these arms. Throw me some numbers. Thanks guys. Love this forum and the info provided. Tom

If you're running a 300mm tire ,the power you're losing through the jackshaft and trying to spin the tire will probably be quite a bit. I'm not sure if it's ever been dyno'd though.
Just curious but are you going for looks or think the 1327 justifies that big of a tire?
Later, Doug

When I was drag racing Jack shaft was a 1/10 - 1/10 1/2 slower.

The motor that I'm using is a 10.5-1 MTC 1327. The head is a 83-84 GPZ1100 head that has been worked by LarryC. The head is incredible. 38.6 intakes 33 exhaust valves, titanium retainers, flows over 100 cfm with Web Cams. MRE trans with billet 2nd gear, Mikuni 38's with air shifter. I like the look of the 300 tire on the KZ. As DFIGPZ said, a tenth or so I can live with. ha ha
