oil pressure switch

1987 KZ1000P - Trying to plug the wire onto the brass terminal that sticks up out of the oil pressure switch on top of the case, but the brass terminal pushes down into the plastic body of the switch, then pops back up, like it's spring-loaded. Is that as it should be? What am I missing here?

No it should not do that. The plunger under the housing is spring loaded but the terminal on top should not move.
