Intermittent Issues with starting was created by blormis
I picked up a 1994 KZ1000 in relatively good shape. There is an issue starting it up. I'm about to dig into it but I wanted to get some input from the community at large.

When I try and start it up, I hear a loud clicking noise (Batter has been tested and fully charged). If I put the bike into first gear and rocker it back and forth then click the start button I can get it to start sometimes. Any thoughts on what I should focus on? I was going to check the starter brushes and the starter clutch.

Cheers

Thanks for the response, i will check that out. I read I can also bypass the solenoid to test the starter as well. I'll give that a shot before I tear into anything.

Cheers!

Solenoid seems ok. I bypassed the solenoid and went straight from the battery to the starter, nothing happened. It seems like an issue with the starter. I am ordering a rebuild kit.
