exhaust for middleweight Kawasaki's: GPz550, etc
26 Oct 2014 20:32
Vintage exhaust systems are hard to come by for an '81 GPz550. So, I'm looking to see what other era middleweight Kawasaki exhaust will fit my bike. From what I can tell, exhaust from these machines are semi-interchangeable:
KZ-550, '81 GPz550, ZR550 (Zephyr), ZX600 aka GPz600 ?, GPX600. Does the ZX-6e share exhaust port spacing with these guys? With all the similar sounding names, it gets confusing. I only mention the 600's because Corey Clough mentioned ZX600 exhaust fitting a GPz550.
Can anyone illuminate me? I'm trying to pick up a decent exhaust without having to buy and return a bunch on eBay.
thanks guys

I *think* your list is correct but I'm not sure. I believe all of those engines are based on the KZ550/500/400 family of motors.

As above, all the 400/500/550 variants will fit, but the rear hanger may need modification.
The early GPZ600 used the same crank and transmission, I've also heard the exhuasts fit but don't know for sure.

Thanks guys. I'm debating trying to source a used Moriwaki exhaust for a ZR400 from Japan.

The Japs love their middleweight kawi 400/550 fours. you won't get any bargians there I doubt after carriage and import duty.
...But a hand bent original moriwaki is worth good money to the right punter anywhere in the world. Beware buying 30 year old scrap metal.
