Valve cover oil leak - 1100 LTD was created by Ludique
Cover and head torqued to shop manual spec.

Oil leak from left side exhaust cam plug. Few drops when engine on side stand, cooks up and cosmetic ugliness ensues.

Question: If I remove valve cover and seal plug with some appropriated sealant, must I replace the valve cover gasket?

As long as you did not use sealant on the valve cover gasket you can re-use it many times without a problem. Ed

As Ed says, generally the gasket can be reused indefinitely, however it's common practice to add a little Yamabond #4 gasket sealer or equivalent around the rubber end plugs extending out a little, so many times if replacing a plug, if not really careful, the gasket will get damaged. Be slow and careful trying to remove the plug without breaking the gasket, and for sure replace that leaking plug. Some say sealer can work to seal the leak, but in my experience it's not going to work for long. Put in the new plug with a little Yamabond #4. Don't use RTV. Another of my tips. RTV good for nothing in my opinion.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
