Oil cover bolt

Hoping someone can help me out with this. My '81 KZ550 was having some charging issues, and while replacing the stator, I inadvertently loosened the large bolt at the bottom of the stator cover and drained a good deal of oil. Is the stuff in there the same as the engine oil or does it need to be replaced separately?

Is there a reason it didn't all leak out then?

On some models there isn't supposed to be any oil behind the stator cover (81 650-CSR for example).
Not sure if your 550 is supposed to or not.
For the ones that do, I think there's a small hole that allows the oil to drain back to the engine.
