My question is do I need that junction tube or whatever that is for my oil cooler setup? It is leak city and as you can see in the pictures it appears that it is rubbing away at the top of the valve cover??!! Any harm in replacing that thing for just two braided lines?

Shit Can it and just run new lines. Watch your line routing as the steel braid will act like a saw if it rubs anything

Took off the thermostat discovered this mess, larger hose around smaller hose around inlet...
Upon further inspection the cooler is gummed up, so while I am cleaning that out can I just connect a hose between these two and run it in the mean time?

Yes, it's just an inlet and outlet.
