just take a look at the mufflers on the bike. are they welded on, or have clamps holding them on?

They look to be welded on at the muffler will I be okay just cutting them at the weld and slipping on the new ones..Also is there any need for gasket?

I'll let someone else answer that one. Have yet to replace mufflers on mine but I'll probably be doing it for next season.
Most seem to slip on and use a clamp though.

Hi, i replaced my mufflers many years ago. Mine were welded on so i needed to cut them off as well. Before you make any cuts, hold the new muffler up to the bike to locate any mounting hangers or supports. Mine had a bracket that bolted on to the passenger footpegs. WHile holding it in place, make a mark on the exhaust pipe of the proper location to make the cut. My slip on mufflers went over the pipes past the crossover tube so I left enough pipe to go inside the muffler to make a tight seal. You may want to remove the exhaust so you can make a clean cut with a tubing cutter for a professional looking cut. A sawzall or band saw would be another alternative. Remember, you can always cut more if necessary. Good luck.

Depending on condition of the existing stock exhaust system, it may have a market value higher than cost of a new after-market exhaust system.
Of course, hacking and modifying a decent stock system usually zaps its market value.
Good Fortune!
