oversize head gasket 'fit'
06 Oct 2014 12:03 - 06 Oct 2014 12:10
I need an obsolete and unavailable 60.25mm GPz550 596cc Yoshimura head gasket, I either I bore out an NOS z500cc Moriwaki 3 piece composite, bore out a new kawasaki 550cc 58.00mm or use a wiseco 615cc 62mm size,
If I used the 62.00 mm wiseco head gasket on the 60.25mm bore, would would 0.75mm 0.030" bore to head gasket clearance be too wide?
Apart from a slight reduction in compression ratio, which could be handy as they are 12:1 3 ring cast pistons... any potential problems with this ?

The Wiseco gasket should be fine. Suzuki uses the same head gasket for GS850-1100 despite significantly different bore sizes.

Thanks, would a bored out original MLM metal 3 piece laminated gasket be better than a Cometic graphite and steel type for this high compression application?

I've run cometic graphite/steel gaskets on turbo street engines with 18 plus psi of boost  .....wiseco/cometic does the" fits all" sizing on a few of the gaskets for engines that they sell  . be sure that you use NO sealer on the head gasket.and cylinder and head surfaces are oil free........ they seal great and last...
