6 speed gearbox for the KZ J model was created by Firestorm3
Hi guys
I am doing up a 'J' model of a clone of the 1982 Lawson S1.
I thought about going the close ratio 5 speed ( like Kipkawa in UK sells ) but I found another UK company who are thinking of doing up a close ratio SIX speed gearbox, and I am very interested in.
I think the price is very reasonable, I am thinking of buying 2 sets but the guy at Nova wants a min order of 5 sets before it makes it worthwhile for him to produce the sets - fair enough, I think.
Anyway, I am looking for some other lunatics who are willing to go this route with me.
If you are interested, write back to me through here or, preferably, my email of KZ1000S1@mail.com

Here is the full email from Nova Transmissions:

Hi Wayne,

The short answer is no at this point we are not a lot closer. We have had such a large amount of ‘repeat’ work it is not always easy to get some of the new projects through as a lot of work is needed to get all the programs and fixtures sorted!!

We have not had a lot of other interest in this gearbox which is also delaying its ‘conception’, are you on any Kawasaki forums, etc which you can start to spread the word on a batch. If we can get to around 5 confirmed orders this should help to speed things up a little!!

Price has been confirmed now at £2750.00 + VAT, based on the kit including fully assembled input and output shafts, a selector drum assembly and also 3 selector forks.

Kind Regards

I believe that works out to about $4,500 US? Good luck - that's a lot of money for a transmission.

Hi Kapahulu
Or over $5000 Aussie - yep, not cheap, and I am sure there are a lot of people out there who read my post and think the exact same. I am just hoping that there is some other crazies out there who want to go with something completely different.
If you have just an old 'dunger' of a Kwaka, it is hardly worth it, for sure. But, if like me you are spending $$$$ on a S1 clone, then this money is small change when looked at with the rest of the budget - originally I was budgeting $35K for this build, but things are quickly looking like I will have to up that by $10K. So in line with that kind of money, $5000 is reasonable.
Its not for everyone.....!!!
Cheers..Wayne

G'day 'spdygon'
I have dealt with another company in UK and from what I have heard, Nova are good as well. Besides, I am flying to UK in June 2015 to go to the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the Isle of MannTT and I will be picking up most of my S1 parts hopefully then. In business class I can carry 40 kilos so that should take care of most of it.
I could buy all 5 sets of gears and then try to flog off 3 but I thought I might try to do the easy way and get 3 other people interested.....
Waiting, waiting, waiting..... LOL!!
Cheers
Wayne.

Isn't it possible to put a 6 speed GPZ trans into a J? That might save you a few bucks.

I didn't know any of the large aircooled GPz models had 6 speed trannies. Ed

G'day Mike
Have to agree with Ed - every air cooled GPz motor that the earlier Z'ds ( or Zees as you guys call them ) and KZ were the same motor/gearbox and when they changed to the six speed in the later GPZ water cooled they were a completely different engine and gearbox and ( I am only guessing here, and anyone knowing more than I can put their 2 cents worth in ) I doubt whether later could go into the earlier because of the big difference.
Yes, would be a lot cheaper, Mike, if you could and if anyone is out there reading this topic has done such a thing, would love to hear from them!!!

Welcome Wayne to this group of KZ addicts.

Been watching to see what kind of comments members would post here.

I have been meaning to ask you if its true that your toilet bowls run in the opposite direction of ours in the northern hemisphere when you flush them??

Or is that just an old wives tail

Hey, Bob, ya ole buggar - when I asked whether you read my posts, I didn't mean you could put a toilet joke in there, mate!!!! LOL!!!
Yes, yes, the dunny water runs in the opposite direction in the Southern hemisphere and its because us Aussies wanna be different to you Northern Hemishere yankies....
Now, be sensible and act our age and answer the question on the GPZ 6 speed to KZ box - your worked on these things more than most of us on this forum, RRB.
