KZ 750 twin Pistons
13 Sep 2014 02:01
Hi there,
I need to get a pair of pistons and rings for my 79 KZ750B4. I need 0.020" or 0.50 mm oversize.
I've spent hours searching but all I can find is a pair of unmatched pistons on e bay.
Any ideas or recommendations would be very much appreciated.
Cheers

What do you mean by "unmatched pistons"? Kawasaki doesn't sell sets, just individual pistons.

You could buy whatever is available, then check weekly to complete the set.
Alternatively, you might be able to find good set of cylinders & pistons from a used bike.
I think you could get the stuff from any 750-Twin (76-83).

The pistons on the kz twins move in phase, up and down together not out of phase like a triumph. The pistons were not matched our specifically balanced as a set, they didn't have to be. The engine is balanced with a pair of counter-rotating balancers in the case.
Buy whatever you can find, parts are not exactly common for those bikes. I would recommend you rebuild the starter clutch of you going this far, its a common problem on the big twins.

If I knew what I was doing all the time life wouldn't be any fun.

You could buy a pair of Yamaha Big Bear 400 pistons and liners, then bore your block for the new liners.
That will put you at 865cc or so.
I know there is at least one person that has done it on here, and I have the pistons and liners to build a 885cc 750 twin, if I ever get a rountuit
Just remembered that I have a set of Venolia high compression pistons for a stock bore 750 twin, and probably a stock bore block also. Got them as a package deal with aftermarket cams and exhaust (you'll have to pry the cams and exhaust from my cold dead hands though)

Re: KZ 750 twin Pistons
13 Sep 2014 16:25Sorry to say, Fleabay seems to be the only source these days. A few years back a place called cyclewareables.com sold them for about $40 each (piston/rings/pin) for brand new OEM pistons in all oversizes. I think they sold out, haven't seen them there in a long time. I got lucky and got them there for my rebuild but I don't know any other places.Stocky wrote: Hi there,

Ebay sellers often show the wrong photo with the item and I have seen "750 twin pistons" with a photo that can't possibly be that. It makes it look like they are some kind of oddball piston not like the stock one.

Re: KZ 750 twin Pistons
13 Sep 2014 17:00Does it have to be 0.50mm over? I have a set of 0.25mm over pistons and rings with only 50 miles on them, but the oil rings are broken so you would need to get oil rings. They are the new pistons I put in my engine but the base gasket disintegrated almost immediately so I had to tear it down to replace the gasket. The idiot working on the engine broke the oil rings going back together, so I ordered two completely new sets.Stocky wrote: Hi there,

If you want them, I'll sell them cheap.
