So I've given up on trying to get my engine back together. Unless I can get it to a good shop to get it back together and make sure everything is 100% for less than the cost of a working engine, I want to replace it. The question I have is what engines would fit the frame I have with no modification. The bike is a 1979 KZ 400 LTD. Double points if it will fit the carbs and exhaust! Otherwise I'll have to look at replacing them too. Honestly the bike does need new carbs anyways, but they do work.

Well I know I've got all the parts. I just can't do a lot of the labor, lack of appropriate tools is the number 1 reason for that. Also the lack of faith in my ability to not mess up the engine any further. I've already replaced the messed up rod bearings, just can't get the crank case back together and do all the work that should be done while the top end is off. I'm betting the labor cost for this is going to run more than a grand, which is why I'm looking at alternate engine options.

I found that the 440 engine will fit my frame and likely my exhaust as well, but I would probably need a new carb for it. Need a new one anyways since the adjustment screw on the left side of mine was shredded by the previous owner. Out of balance carb is probably one of the reasons my engine quit to begin with.
