Where am I leaking?
02 Sep 2014 15:56
This is just a general question. I am seeping oil from a few spots and it's gonna be a winter project. I think I can get away without a complete teardown. Here are a
couple pics. Give your opinions

Time to take some engine cleaner to it... GUNK, Simple Green or whatever you got... get ALL the junk outta there so you can see where, specifically, the oozing/leaks are starting.
Gotta start somewhere... and I'm not in IL to wash your bike 4ya!
update: Although it does appear to be up in the valve cover gasket area, for starters... and oil does have gravity affecting its flow. Could have more areas seeping/leaking/oozing.

It looks like a valve cover gasket, maybe a head gasket, and maybe the cam chain tensioner

I see I am leaking in the upper left side of the engine. Could it be just a cam end plug? Also the oil that is on the fins on the left side could that be from the cam chain tensioner and also the oil switch leaking ?

Definitely agree with !seymore - give it a thorough degrease and dry off, then run the engine and you should be able to see where the leak/s are coming from.

Well cleaned it a little fired her up and it is defiantly leaking from the chain tensioner. I think with the angle of the engine it runs into the fins then spreads as I go down the road. It an 81 csr 1000 any procedures for changing o rings and seals on the tensioner that aren't in the manual? Tips or tricks

Check the gasket and replace if needed. Ed
