No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationso I picked up this project bike, a 81 kz 1100 shaft, after working on it , it appears the PO run it with out oil and the exaust cam bearings are spun and the bolts snapped from there holders causing head damage, I haven't pulled the head yet but if these cams are doomed then im pretty sure that bottom end Is trashed as well. how much has a basic DIY engine rebuild cost you guys? this will be my first kz rebuild. do I just buy a new head or a rebuild... bike says 55k
if yes on the head, what years will be a *factory* fit..? I do know in like 93 ish the kz 1000 went from 16-18mm valves *I think*, and any problems with running a 81+ 1000 head..?

if I chose to rebuild and my jugs arnt trashed to hell, there some are ebay kz 1100 kits that are 2.5 over making it a 1175, how good are these pistons /rings..? good or avoid..?

Maybe this was partially why you were having trouble selecting gears but then surely the motor would have been locked and unable to turn  Anyway the head will probably have bent valves so i advise you to pull the motor apart and see what else is damaged before going any further
If another Head should be required any J series 81+ would be fine

k, what about those pistons from japan..? good or a bad idea..?

all so on tear down are any of the seals pressed on ..?

and can I just leave the clutch hub and starter hub on when I pull the cases or are there seals between them that need to be replaced and is there a special tool in getting them off?

Unless you have lots of spending money, and a lot of time, look for a used motor.
