Hello, I'm new here, and allready have a Problem with my brand new LTD440 KZ440A.
I hope someone has an idea: when I start the engine it vruns bad and after a while an oil/fuel combination flows out of the airbox, I think it comes out of the right carburettor. The bike is for my wife and this is not what makes her happy :S. Please help!

sounds like flooding. Problem with the float and or needle valve. May need cleaning or adjusting.

If it's Brand New, take it back to the Dealer, if not, it helps if you tell us what year it is
what position do you have the petcock in ?
if you have gas in your air box, there's a good possibility gas got into the crank case, remove the oil fill cap, & do a sniff test & make SURE you don't smell gas in the oil, you can do a lot of damage if you run it like that
most likely it's a sticky float, or your floats need to be adjusted
you can do the clear tube method, to check your float heights
& DEFINATLLY buy a KAWASAKI service manual for your specific model & year
& don't WASTE your money on a Haynes or Clymer manual, only get a KAWASAKI manual

Brand new KZ440A = 1981  , 28000km.there is fuel in the oil. The bike stood still for a Long time so I changed oil etc. and started the engine. It ran, but not well, gave more gas, sometimes the engine ran better, and then I noticed a lot of 'oil' unther the engine. It appears that it came from the airbox and is a mixture of oil and fuel. The inlet of carburetor 2 is wet and oily as well. does this sounds familiar?

I put a wooden stick in the oil inlet(?) and there is just oil in the housing. I just went to my shed and there was fuel all over the place. the petcock was in the middle position but it seems that the fuel still runs when the engine is shutdown. The petcock is vacuumcontrolled ?

Buy inlet, do you mean the rubber air cleaner duct form the air cleaner to the carbs, or the rubber carb holder from the carbs to the engine ?
neither should be wet & or greasy & if they are old, they could have hairline cracks in them ,which would give you a vacuum leak, you can check for a vacuum leak by spraying carb cleaner or start thing fluid on the ducts & holders while the bike is at idle & see if your RPMs change, if they do you have a vacuum leak
also check to make sure all clamps are tight
P.S. the screws are NOT Phillips, they are JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) slotted screws, as on all Japanese bikes
If you use a Phillips Screwdriver you will most likely strip them ....Just some of the tools you will need with a Japanese car or bike

If the Petcock is on prime (PRI) it Bypasses the vacuum & flows all the time, you should have it in the ON position or reserve (RES) for the vacuum to work & stop the flow to the carbs
It's also a good idea to shut the fuel OFF when not running it

If petcock leaks in the OFF position, it could be a bad Diaphragm in the petcock

By inlet I mean the hole in the carter where you should fill new oil, don't know the English word. I suppose the diaphragm from the petcock ic defect, without vacuum the fuel still flows.... I will check this first, and the Position of the floaters. But you think it is possible that when the engine is on that there can be so much leakage back through the carburettors into the airbox? I hope it has nothing to with Piston springs etc. I must say that when the engine runned it sounds good, no strange mechanical sounds and so. By the way, thank you for helping!

I found the cause: the petcock stuck, so the fuel was soaked directly into the cylinder. I got it separated, greased it and the bike runs. ;)

The petcock was only 1 problem. You still have a problem with the carbs. Even with the petcock problem the carbs should not overflow. You should see if the float valves are sticking (very likely) and use the clear tube method to check the fuel level which may be set too high. Ed
