Question about a base gasket
18 Aug 2014 05:28
I have noticed that my base gasket is leaking just below the cam chain tensioner. I was looking closely at the base of the cylinder, and it looks like the current gasket is a light gray liquid type gasket(no paper gasket or otherwise).
Mine is a "81 KZ650 CSR
My question is, did these come with a liquid style base gasket from factory, or were they a fiber style gasket, and someone has had the cylinder off?
Thanks.

There should be a base gasket no sealant would have been used at the factory. you could try re-torque the head, but if there is no gasket you should take it apart and see what else the previous owner messed with...
If I knew what I was doing all the time life wouldn't be any fun.

Definitely replace the tensioner seal, before tearing down the top-end of your motor.
I had the same issue, and thankfully it was just a bad tensioner o-ring. :pinch:
