Starting problems 83 Spectre 550 Help! was created by calvinhobbesfan92
Alright guys, the Spectre I bought the other day had loose carb boots. I took the carb ,air box, battery holder out. Just checking everything over. Put the carb and air boxes back on with a new air filter.
Before i took it apart it as running pretty well other than a little starting trouble. Now I can't start it for the life of me. It will turn over fine but I can't seem ti get it ti start except for a few seconds every once in a while ... when i put the throttle on it seems to kill it. Is it possible I hooked up the air and fuel lines wrong?
What do I need to look for? I want to sort through it before I break down and go to a mechanic. HELP!

Try to isolate the problem. If it fires up on starting spray, or brake disc cleaner then probably not ignition related.
The fuel tap has a vacuum take- off from one of the carb rubber boots, this needs to be connected. Also put it on 'prime' to fill the carbs with fuel and see what happens.
If it is CV carbs then don't touch the throttle when cold starting.
