Transmission HELP!

Hello all,

This is my first post and a sad one at that. I just finished a full tear down and reinstall of all the gaskets in the engine but I'm guessing I buggered the trans in reassembly. The symptoms I have are as follows.

*bike is 1983 kz1100 ltd

Bike will not roll without dragging the rear tire, clutch in or out, in neutral, backwards or forwards.
Trans will only shift from 1st to neutral.
When I attempted to engage the trans in 1st gear the engine just spins and clunks like rocks spinning around.
There where noticeable problems in the week or so I had the bike before tear down.

So any idea on what I might have done? Im really hopping I don't have to spit the case again!

Thanks in advance!

If the bike isn't moving the "neutral finder" feature of your transmission will prevent you from shifting into 2nd gear or higher.

Check your countersprocket to make sure it is secure and that the chain is on it and can move freely. With the bike on the center stand (engine off) and the transmission in neutral you should be able to easily spin the rear wheel. If you can't, disconnect the chain and see if the rear wheel will spin. It is possible that the transmission is fine and that the rear brake is locked up. Ed

Don't know enough about shafties......but I would double check the shaft drive assembly as your problem could be there and not in the gearbox. When you put the motor back together there could be a connection issue to the shaft.

As 650ed commented they only select 1st and neutral from standstill - it is how they are designed.

Sounds more like like a clutch adjustment issue to me.

adjust clutch pushrod from the lh casing, then the cable adjuster and fine tune with the lever adjuster.
