Hey all. I'm at a loss here.
When I bought this bike a few months ago, I noticed oil leaking from around the stator casing. I figured it was the gasket so I replaced it.

Nope. Still leaking. Seems to be around the rubber boot/grommet attached to the stator wires.
Also, I'm not entirely sure if 1100's are even supposed to have oil in the stator casing. Possible crank seal leak? Is this a serious issue?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Go to www.z1enterprises.com and order a new grommet. You'll need to do some wiring & splicing, to fit the new grommet.

That's a common problem,Pull the grommet and wires off the cover and clean them and cover really good.
Then smear a little silicone around the grommer and area wires go through it and reinstall with a new gasket.
Key word here being a little silicone. You can also spray copper coat on both sides of the paper gasket and let it tack up before installing for good measure. ;)

Still recovering, some days are better than others.

Oil feeds from behind the starter gear and drains into the oil pan just below the crank. My guess, it gets thrown around pretty-good in there by the spinning gears and generator components driven by the crank.
That rubber stator grommet can be a trick to seal properly. Not only does the grommet perimeter need sealer applied, but the three individual wires that feed through it. It is imperative to remove oil from the wires and grommet before applying sealer, and smart to let it cure well before starting the engine.
Waiting is the hard part for me. :cheer:

Sweet. Looks like I have a new weekend project. Got any recommendations for a good sealer?

Threebond 1211 was recommended to me by a retired California Kaw Police bike mechanic. It has worked very well, and a little goes a long way for this type of application. Also available at Z1E.

Great for those rubber cam-end plugs too!

Try the Permatex sealer in a spray can.. if oil can seep out the sealer can seep in or use a vacuum to help pull it in. It does make a bit of a mess around the area sprayed. For bigger leaks the procedure may need to be done a few times.

It WILL SEAL THE LEAK.

I like to shrink-wrap the section of wires that pass through that grommet for an even tighter fit, pretty common leak for these bikes other than the tach seal.

Should look like this when your done. Took me all but 30 min. to remove and replace the stator. The grommet is another task altogether but can be done.
