Hey everyone
My tachometer has never worked since the day I bought the bike. It has never been a problem because I didn't really ride it that much. My car broke recently so I have been commuting on the bike. It doesn't seem to want to break 65-70mph which is a problem on the highway. I would like to get the tachometer working again so I can see if I am just not pushing it hard enough or if there is an issue somewhere that I need to fix. The tach needle seems to bounce around between 200-500 rpms but it seems to have more to do with the engine vibration than any real feedback. The bouncing around makes me feel like it is not a lubrication issue but maybe a problem with the cable? Does anyone know what I should take a look at to figure this out?

Would remove the tach cable and try to determine whether the inner cable is broken or frayed, and if so or in doubt replace it with a new cable, which is relatively inexpensive.

Perhaps the engine is running on just 2 cylinders.

Good Fortune! :)

If not the cable there is a gear run off the cam or busted tach
