re assembly 1980 kz1000
03 Aug 2014 00:31
I have been trying to re assemble engine and had placed the base gasket in position. Now the gasket has been soaked in oil but no pressure applied, can i still use this gasket? Not torn or misshapen ,just oily. Thoughts?

I would replace it. Make sure all contact areas are oil free when you do it again

Oil soaked gaskets are your friend. Go ahead and use it. I spray all gaskets with WD 40 before I put them on. Makes them easier to get off.

Thanks but if I don't have to take it off again,i'm happy.I agree it should be OK since it was not molested. It should be noted that I don't molest gaskets, lately.....mostly...........usually sometimes....
