KZ550 Breaker cap compatibility

Hey all! Quick parts compatibility question for ya. I recently destroyed my breaker cap on the right side of the motor of my '82 KZ550C LTD. I didn't think it would be much of a big deal until I found out how rare the damn part is. Most websites I've searched either have it listed as out of stock or a ridiculous price, in talking $200+ for a NOS. Now I'm not about to bend over and pay that kind of money, at least not yet, so I've started to look at older 650 caps (much more common and much less pricey). The gasket surface on these look identical from what I can tell from the pictures but I'm still a little apprehensive. Does anyone know the compatibility of these parts? The one I'm currently looking at on eBay is off of a '79 KZ650B part no. 11012-1035 (pictured below). I believe mine is a 11012-1098. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thank you! -Alan

The gasket that goes behind that cover is the same part number for both the KZ550 and the KZ650.

That tells me both covers have the same dimensions.

It will fit, but a word of caution :woohoo: ,make sure the depth is the same so as to not contact the points and keep the bike from firing  Some will be perfectly good to go ;) Some can be ground enough on the inside to provide the needed clearance :)

Been there. The footprint is the same, but some of the 650 covers are not as deep. If you get the older points covers, they may be very close to touching the rotor mounting bolt. The later 650's and 750-4 covers should work fine.
