engine set up to run 9s in 1/4 was created by 69newportking
What kind of engine modifications /horsepower/setup does it take for a kz to run in the mid to high 9s in the 1/4 mile ?

That's a really open ended question. Are you talking street trim or race only with a slick and wheelie bars?

Typically a race bike will be lighter and can leave much harder with wheelie bars and a slick than a streetbike with all the lights etc. Pretty much what I'm saying is a smaller engine can be used if the bike is built to be lighter and setup for drag only.

Also, do you want a N/A engine or a boosted/sprayed combo?

Buy a ZX14R and put Ricky Gadson on it to run 9.3X with a ~190 rwhp 500 lb bike and whatever Ricky weighs.

I'm pretty sure you're looking at a turbo or nitrous to get there on a KZ.
Or a 1500cc big block race motor.

Hi 9's or low 9's...there is a big difference there too.

Like Doug said, not enough info unfortunately. Rider weight, bike weight, kind of tire, how good you are at launching the bike, etc....people have run 9's with 1075's and smaller. Depends on the rest of the package.

Why 9's? Why not low to mid 8's? Just get a KZ750 Turbo and spice it up a little. :cheer:
Take a look at the link for ideas. Ed

Hope you got Lots of Money to play in the race game.

And a large pair of stones to ride a bike like that at maximum potential.

I used to

, Now I just shift out of 2nd at 110 and climbing and call it good.

Or call Terry Kizer at MR Turbo and start writing checks

Guy around here with a dragbike....no wheelie bars but a slick and slider set up soft. 1105cc...11-1 compression...self ported head...36mm Mikuni's.....420 lift cams.....1-2 auto trans. and he runs 9.2-9.3 all day long. Good rider with right set-up chassis should be able to get into the nines with good street tire. This bike is probably aound 66"-68" long. I've seen a ELR running a 1200cc motor with .425 cams....ported head but with stock wheelbase and stock size tire. This bike looks stock. He was running 10.2's while coming off the line on the soft side. Lots of ways to get there. Slick and bars is much easier way to get there but can be done with street tire bike with right set-up and learning how to ride.

1980 LTD (changed over the years), 1979 LTD (being rebuilt), 1977 KZ turbo and various KZ's in various states of build. KLX110
