1982 KZ750n1 Spectre
Spectre/Ninja head swap was created by J Burch
Timing was off and cams were out of phase upon reassembly. There is no compression. Getting ready to do a leakdown test, but am fairly certain valves are bent. I have been looking at eBay. There are a few KZ750 heads for sale at the moment that would work, but noticed this 750 ninja head from 02 that looks like it would fit. Anybody know if that would work or be able to recommend a suitable replacement from what is currently available for sale on eBay?
I trusted my neighbor to assist with the reassembly. He was very confident that he knew what he was doing and I trusted him instead of doing my own research to make sure that this didn't happen. I spent days cleaning valves, combustion chambers, scraping gaskets, etc. Now all that hard work was for nothing, other than the education/experience.
All I had to do was open the book. Whoops.

Not going to work unless you are capable of some major re-engineering of your engine. The ninja has 4 valves per cylinder, completely different animal than the 750.

I think he means a ZR750 from around 2001 or so, such as the ZR-7S. I think those engines are based on the KZ650/750 (2 valves per cylinder). They have the same cam chain & primary chain, but I have no idea if you can swap the cylinder heads.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationYeah, it's the 02 Kawasaki Ninja ZR 750 ZR750/ZR7 Engine Cylinder Head Motor w/ Cams OEM A6213
and it's 2 valves a cylinder. Looks really close. The oil vents may be different, not sure.
Here is the listing that I am referring to:
Like I said, there are a few KZ750s, but if this would fit, it is 20years younger.

Ahhh, I see. Yeah that should work, I wouldn't hesitate to buy that one either.

Or you could maybe look in the Classifieds here on KZR, where you might find both a GPz750 head and a KZ750 head for maybe $50 plus shipping, each.
Or buy the ZR7 head and bolt it on,
You can still buy the bare ZR7 head and all the parts to assemble it new from Kawasaki. $1315.18 for the bare head from Ron Ayers. I checked the parts diagrams and the head/valves/valve cover/cylinder block/pistons/etc, share no part numbers with any earlier models. Still should bolt on though. The ZR7 head gasket is multi layer steel and popular for use on the 750 Turbo.

Thanks for the feedback, all. I'm gonna tear my head off and see what's going on before I make any moves, to see what the damage is. Maybe it's not as bad as I think it is.
