1980 KZ100 LTD Re-assembly

Trying to reassemble this bike that I tore down to the frame. Now putting the engine back together and getting stuck with the jugs. All pistons except #1 go in no problem,#1 will not go past the oil rings. I now have removed the jugs and the piston.I have tried different rings ,different piston with the new rings. I have a set of other pistons that has not been cleaned, and the rings intact and they slide no problem. Going CRAZY! Any Help?

Did you set the gap on the rings? Ed

No I havent.Bought these from a shop in England. I was told that I didn't need to gap them. I used these rings in my 77 re build and they working great(touch wood) and 2,3 and 4 are going in with no problems on this engine. Tore it down over a year ago, don't know if that has any bearing.

I would at least check the ring gaps. They may be fine, but better safe than sorry. Ed

With the money I spent on my bike, one reason I sleep good at night is..... the numbers all added up and were correct.

You were told or you assumed is bad math. Slow down and put in the work.

Good luck

It would appear that the to oil rings and the corrugated copper in the middle are binding and not letting the rings move and therefore not compressing and thus impeding the pistons path into the bore.

That being said, don't know how to remedy the problem
