APE cam cover plug installation was created by kaw-a-holic
I got some APE cam cover plugs today and have a question. Z1 Ent plugs come with gasket material. Am I supposed to buy and use that or just use RTV?

Coat the groove the fits in the head with a small bead of black rtv, do this for each cam cap then bolt on the valve cover without a gasket using just the end bolts nearest the cam caps and let sit overnight or long enough for the silicone to cure. this method properly seats the caps in the head preventing any leaks. after the silicone cures pull the valve cover install the gasket dry except for just a thin layer atop each cam cap and reinstall the valve cover and torque to spec. I've used this method forever and never had a cam cap leak. Good Luck

OMR (or anyone else), what else can you using this on? Is the base gasket for the jugs required or can I replace it with a gasket maker? I have a gasket but I'm not sure its a good one; it came in a kit I bought from Japan(D&K and its green). Keep in mind this is a stock motor with the exception of pipe and Henry Abe bread box air filter.

DO NOT use sealant for the base gasket. It is a pain to replace a leaky base gasket so just get a new one.
