Strange frame/engine number KZ1000

So just bought what the seller told me is an '80 KZ1000. It's a 2rd gen KZ motor so assumed it was actually an '81, and as it has a 16" spoke rear wheel it was a CSR.

However, the frame and engine number is a little odd. Looks to be "IIH - 0027**". That's it. No KZT or JKZ, very short for a frame number, and frame and motor match exactly, which I've not seen in owning 2 Z1s, 3 KZ900s and a KZ1000.

Anybody seen this before?

thanks

Do you have a current title for that motorcycle? Not a standard VIN, for sure. Don't know if Colorado issues replacement VIN's but replacement VIN's usually involve either a motor VIN or frame VIN, but not both...

No title, and as it appears to be pre-82/83 (when the 17 digit viv came in), gonna have to get a long with what I got. Another clue?

Here are a few shots. Frame and cases look 2nd gen to me. Maybe a very early csr?

This poor machine has had some rough work done on it, including a mono shock conversion that's tearing itself apart. Basically at this stage trying to figure out of its worth salvaging or if it's a parts bike. Hate to do it, but the frame is gonna take some work to put back. Got the motor to fire a few times but wouldn't idle. Probably dirty carbs and pods of CVs can't help.

I would lean towards it being 81- csr from the picture, not an 80 kz1000.
It might have a mid 1980 build date on steering head that theyre going by,but its an 81 model bike. :)

Id say save motor and what wheel/suspension parts you can and scrap the rest.
Do you have any close ups of the mono shock conversion to stock swingarm?
Those stock arms are pretty flexible to say the least, the dual shocks help to keep the back wheel from coming over and slapping you in the back.
I could just imagine how it would handle when you hit the gas hard with that set up!     :S :( :pinch:  :woohoo:

Yeah, was my conclusion too, '81. Very strange number though. Never seen or heard of a big Kawa frame number like, "IIH-00001". Supposed to look like this apparently...JKZKZCM18BA000001

Oh well

I'll post some pics in a minute. If you think just the mono-shock would induce sway, the swingarm, re-positioning would really make for an "exciting" ride.

A PO drilled holes in the foot peg mounts, did in fact re-infoce with some extra steel plate, but it looks scary as all get out.

Mono shock conversion. Check out the peeling swingarm gusset.
