timing chain tensioner was created by jonarmstrong
Just bought an APE timing chain tensioner off eBay. I didn't receive any information with it. Do I set it at a specific torque? If so, how much? I checked pin to pin measurement on my timing chain when I had the cover on and it was within spec but I'm getting a lot of noise that I have been told is abnormal. If I'm accounting for slack w the manual tensioner am I not losing timing between crank and cams? Thanks

here is how I adjust it.

with the tensioner out, I put a 17mm wrench on the timing advancer nut an turn it counter clockwise a 1/4 turn. This removes all tension off cam chain.

I put my finger in the tensioner hole and flip the tension idler bracket back and forth making sure all tension is off it

I then back off the tensioner stem so the APE tensioner can be installed freely without interference with the idler bracket.

I then lightly hand tighten the tensioner stem until the stem becomes tight, not to force it.

I then back the stem off 1 complete turn and lock it down. Your done!

Counter clockwise?? Won't that pull the chain tight on the tensioner side? I'm just wondering. I would have thought clockwise to put all the slack at the back. Thanks for your help

Try not to think GRASSHOPPER.

Try both ways, insert finger and repot back your findings.

Ok, counter clockwise shoves the arm back toward the hole. Clockwise let's it go all the way in. But... The tensioner is evidently not for a kz. Oh well. Gotta go back on ebay
