Cylinder Stud Removal Tool? was created by Nessism
750E2 Cylinder studs are giving me fits. Double nut trick ain't getting it done - stripped a couple nuts and afraid of damaging the threads on the studs. Can anyone recommend a good stud puller tool that won't break the bank? Was looking on Ebay for a Snap-On A50 but can't find one with the smaller rack appropriate for these studs.

 Tried heating the aluminum area with a torch just before the double-nut attempt?
May loosen the thread grip as the aluminum expands more than the steel.

Good Fortune! :)

I heated the case and stud HOT. PB Blaster on both too.

Good reminder to go spray them again though. Can't hurt.

I recently broke the head off in the engine manifold. The screw was stripped beyond repair and I tired to use a pair of Vise Grips to remove the screw... only the head came off.

In talking to several people about using an 'EZ-Out' tool I was told that ...'If the vise Grips couldn't get it out the very small EZ-Out tool certainly would not. I opted to drill and Tap the hole.

I used a center punch to start a very small diameter drill bit... then a larger drill bit... until I was just short of the 6 mm hole size. I even left a little of the old screw in the threads. Using a T-Handled 6mm Tap the job was very easy... 2 turns in... 1 turn out...2 turns in... 1 turn out. Use WD-40 as cutting oil while tapping. Worked like a charm!

Bought one a couple weeks ago, it's a POS. It doesn't bite into the stud, just turns around. Overpriced at $3.:(

Edit: Had another go with the HF stud remover. Installed it over the stud then grabbed the outside of the tool with channel locks to keep it from rotating while turning the tool drive. This allowed the teeth in the cam device to bite into the stud. Once I got the hang of it the tool worked okay, other than all the studs now have deep teeth grooves in them now. Hope that's okay. Saw that APE sells studs and nuts, but wasn't budgeting $150 for those. :S
