03 Jun 2014 17:53
So I'm wanting to put these

on my 1982 kz550. What will I have to so differently other then remove airbox. I currently have carbs off also cause I'm cleaning them. So I though why not do this too. Do I have to rejet? And if so how do i know what to go to?

You will probably have to rejet. It's mostly a trial and error process to get it tuned right so you may need to purchase multiple jets before you find the ones that work. Type in pods in the search box. Theres hundreds of posts there with good info

So, you want to become a carb guru rather than a motorcycle rider, eh? Or was there some other reason to remove the air box and install pods (I can't think of one). I suggest you take a look at the SEARCH feature on this site. There have been close to 8,000 postings (no kidding) on the subject of pods, so anything you wish to know has probably already been discussed many times. Here's how to search for them:

If you decide to put pods on don't cheap out with those filters. get UNI or K&N. trust me I know from experience. Get the Dyno Jet kit and it will have bigger jets for your pods. I love mine and it runs great. I think the biggest problem people run into is altitude when trying to tune for pods. Im 800 ft above sea level and don't have any issues. And for the people that complain about them, I understand what you are saying but my bike didn't have an air box when I got it.

So I searched for the pods and all of the sudden I love my airbox once again! I can make it look good. Maybe throw some paint on it or something. I'll save rejetting for another journey haha

If your considering painting the air box you should look at this posting (see link). The owner shows painting his Kawasaki air box step-by-step and it turned out GREAT! Ed

03 Jun 2014 21:37You will also need to fab some kind of mechanical support for the rear of the carb rack if you install pods.CoN2389 wrote: Haha thanks guys! The pods look cool!
