Clutch cover alignment pins

How do you remove the side cover alignment pins?

So my bike was leaking oil from around the clutch side engine cover. The bike had been dumped by a P.O. and put a hole in the cover that they welded up. Looked like crap but the weld was solid. anyway, when they re-installed the cover they used some liquid gasket instead of an O.E. type. I figured this was the reason for the leak, so since I have a full gasket kit, and was able to source a new cover i decided to replace the cover and seal 'er up good. disassembly went surprisingly well, but once i got inside i find that the cover alignment pins, those little hollow dowel-y bits are still in the engine, as well as in my new side cover... goes with out say, it wont fit. but wait, it gets better! one of the pins, somehow got crushed and is a mangled glob! (probably the reason for the liquid gasket and poor seal)

It appears as though the P.O. tried to get one of the pins out but only managed to remove some chunks of aluminum from the engine instead...

Any ideas on how to get these out?
