Cam Chain tensioner adj?

I have a 83 kz750 n spectre. I'm hearing a little noise from the cam chain. Is there a way to adjust or tighten up the automatic tensioner?
Thanks in advance. Its a four cylinder motor and the tensioner is L shaped with a cap on the end.

Aside from any issue with the tensioner, a good carb sync (if needed) often reduces cam chain noise.

You could inspect & service the tensioner. Be sure to follow the instructions in the service manual & use a suitable lubricant. Do not turn the crankshaft while the tensioner is removed.

Alternately, manual cam chain tensioners are available for the bike.
For my own reasons, a manual tensioner is preferable, especially when doing the valve clearance check. Ape Racing - KZ Zone - Tensioners

Thanks so much for the excellent information, and the link to the service manual. I have a few additional questions after reading the manual. My auto tensioner isn't exactly the same as the one in the manual, but I assume they work the same. I don't want to mess anything up so let me make sure I understand the process for removing the tensioner. First rotate the crank to tdc for 1 and 4. Then remove the cap and make sure the lock pin is in place, then remove the two bolts that hold the tensioner in place and remove the tensioner. The installation seems to be the reverse, and don't move the crank while the tensioner is out. Anything I'm missing?
Also was mentioned that a carb sync might help the cam chain noise. I don't have the sycn tool. Is the Motion Pro with the blue fluid a good setup? Where's the cheapest place to buy them?
Martin CSR mentioned that he prefers a manual tensioner whats the pros of this kind of setup?
So the GPZ basically is the same motor and trans as my bike the kz750N2?

My auto tensioner isn't exactly the same as the one in the manual,
That 750 pdf manual mentions two types of tensioners. Pg 156 shows the ball-lock type.
The cross-wedge is shown on pg. 273. From the diagrams, yours should be a cross-wedge auto tensioner.

With the manual type, after properly installing it, you don't have to worry about the tensioner when doing a valve clearance check. It's possible that the automatic type will take up some slack if you turn the crankshaft while the valve cover is off, resulting in a too-tight cam chain. In the 81 650 manual, the tensioner info is scattered in various chapters & I found it kinda confusing, and none of the info is included w the valve clearance instructions. I got a Krieger tensioner, but I think I'd prefer Ape Racing's. The Krieger uses countersunk allen head bolts: it doesn't really matter, but I would rather use the stock bolts.
