70mm MTC Piston Kit - Rings & Clips? was created by NakedFun
Hey all,

Quick question. Do the 70mm MTC pistons have the grooves for standard wrist clips and use standard OEM rings from a KZ1000? I found a set of pistons new with the wrist pins, but no Teflon buttons or rings. Trying to figure out what the additional costs would be vs. buying the complete kit as one.

Thanks in advance,
Cory

Recent MTC pistons use the same rings as Wiseco.
Top of the piston should be stamped something like XA , XC , XG or just A ,C or G which denotes which ring set they use or if no markings you can measure the ring groove to determine which type they take.
Bought a set of MTC's from Pitstop for the drag bike build and they came with buttons which we used.
They might have had clip grooves but can't be sure as it was over a year ago and I 've used Wiseco's in every other motor since.
Price of circlips or buttons are a very minor expense though and shouldn't blow the budget.

Thanks for the info Zed. I remember reading on Joe's site something about $42ish Teflon buttons, so I figured the button set would be about that much. Would then need to pick up some rings. They are on EBay for starting bid if $235 and BIN of $350. So they could be significantly cheaper that a new kit, but close enough that if rings and buttons are going to cost $150, at the BIN price I am only $90 shy of Joe's price and his includes free cylinder boring....so still chewing on this.

Well I made a deal on the pistons, so I'll have to order the rings and buttons from MTC. As for the earlier comment, yes the pistons are machined with the clip retaining grooves so you can use those instead of the buttons.
