Remove Front Belt Pulley was created by ivandem
Hi Guys,

I've got an oil leak somewhere around the Front belt pulley. At least, when I run the engine, oil spews out through the holes in the pulley. I''ve just torn apart the top end, replaced the head gasket and cleaned it all up. i don't see any issues there (now).

Can anybody tell me how to get that pulley off? I'm sure it's pretty simple but i can find any info on it... and I've looked (clymer, service manual, online...). To this point I've taken the cover and gear shifter off and removed the rear wheel. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

John

kawasaki.com transmission diagram shows:

20mm nut
claw washer
24 tooth output sprocket
collar
o'ring
oil seal

May find lots of good info on kawasaki.com, including parts diagrams, part names, part numbers, models sharing same part, availability, etc. If needed, here's a link for help with navigating the site and finding information.

Oil seal part number is 92050-024.

May search the part number for availability on ebay.
Should find several listings.

Thanks for the reply, guys. My problem is that I can't find a way to loosen that nut in front of the pulley. I've tried keeping the bike in gear but I end up just moving the whole damn engine. :side:

I have both the Clymer manual (and how crappy this one is) and a PDF of the service manual. Neither of which I've been able to find a solution in. They seem to stop at replacing the belt. I'm going to have to take some more time with that service manual again. There's got to be a trick, a simple solution, that I haven't thought of yet.

Is having the bike in gear with a helper holding the rear brake an option? Even if only to break the nut free. Another suggestion would Be to try using an impact gun, they normally work wonders in those situations.

Mine:
04 Honda rebel 250(wifes)
04 GSXR 750(bolt on galore)
98 CBR 600F3(filter, pipe, adjustable cam sprokets, dyno tune)
76 KZ900A (LTD gauge pods, crash bars, LTD(style)pipes, dyna coils and ignition, headwork and mild port cleanup by cavanaugh racing, K&N filter pods, heck I dunno.

If not already done, could try heating the nut with a torch just before attempting to remove it. This may help loosen the grip of any red locktite that might have been applied when the nut was last installed.

And if feasible, the local tire store guy may be willing to help out with their powerful air impact wrench.

Good Fortune! :)

A strap wrench (see www.harborfreight.com/2-piece-rubber-str...rench-set-94119.html ) should be used to hold the pulley in place while you try to remove the nut.

Short length of an old drive chain, wrapped around both the front sprocket, and the pivot of the swing arm, with one bolt on either side of the swinger, holding the chain together on either side ...and yeah, impacts are your friend!
