This is the same thing that would happen to me.....I would end up with a completely rebuilt engine because of one bad rubber wheel. "Might as well do this while that's off.....might as well do that too...and when I do that I need to do this." ;)

Go ahead and start a restro thread and we'll see you next summer with a completely rebuilt bike! You have a few others to ride for now right?

I get too easily sidetracked to have this engine that far apart during the riding season. I ride a lot and do a lot of fishing (here in Wisconsin, you gotta milk the warm weather for all it's worth!) Anyhow, my current bore / pistons won't last forever... The bores are pretty scratchy looking, so I'm going to need a hone. It was already bored to 1075 a long time ago. So if I'm lucky, a hone will take care of it. I'm sure the chain will hold up until this thing gets tired out. Can't say I'm too keen on the whole master link cam chain thing either. I'm sure they work just fine, but it's pretty strange to me!

I also have an LTD of the same year, that does need a full resto. So I'll be content with this one running well again. There's always something else to sink money into. Right now, my only running bike is my SV1000. I do like that one a lot, but it totally lacks the ol' KZ charm, if you know what I mean.
