Yes on cam bearings. I use the green plastic-gauge.

On the other, why?

i have the top end apart to change cams oh i should mention that this is a spare motor that i want to put into my L3 i have the pistons off as well not really wanting to put the top end back together rite this moment i just figured that it would be easier to do the checks while head is off

The 82 gpz750 does not have cam bearings.

I got a 1980 KZ750 cam set for my KZ650 on Ebay and checked them out with Plastigage I got 2 intakes at .003, 2 were at .0035 and all the exaust were right at .004 so I was good to go. Like Baldy said there are no bearings so it was good to see the heads still holding up fine.

When you use the Plastigage, remember to have all of the valves removed from the head or you will get a false reading.

You checked the valve clearance with Plastigage?

No Steele I meant the cam bearing and head bearing clearances. No grooves either everything was nice and smooth.

After 500 miles and now at 650 miles (after the rebuild) I had two slightly tight ex valves at .005 and the other at .0035 so I shimmed them out to around .0065 to .007 and now all 8 are right at that clearance. Shouldn't have to check or remove those darn cams for a good long time now. :woohoo:
