Yep that's them. Pulled two brand new ones out of the Kawasaki packaging today. I didn't put a caliper to them prior to install though.

I'm sure the odds are very slim that the problem is related to the torque wrench, but just in case - is it possible your torque wrench needs to be re-calibrated? If someone you know has one you may want to compare.

Also, what is the range of your torque wrench? If it's a large wrench it's possible you are operating below its accurate range. Torque wrenches are not accurate below 20% of their full scale. Ed

If it's a blind hole, it should be cleaned out by using such as compressed air or carb cleaner spray before screwing into it, because oil or debris inside can present a false bottom and shallower hole.

Good Fortune! :)

If those are the bolts you are using, watch your torque setting. My book calls for 12 ft lbs, which is way too much (having had to helicoil about half of my head bolt holes). Don't go above 90 inch pounds (about 8-9 foot pounds).

I believe you may be thinking of the bolts that fasten the cam caps to the cylinder head (shown as #92001 in the diagram above) rather than the 2 used to secure the head to the block (shown as #92001A in the diagram above). The bolts marked 92001 are 6mm, the 2 marked 92001A are 8mm. Ed

I see now - yes. Those are the ones that hold the center of the head tight against the o-ring in the top of the block. Never mind.

Well guys as much as i like to do things the way the books say, sometimes i improvise. After checking calibration of my torque wrench and ensuring the bolt holes were clear of crap i decided to place a washer under each bolt. After doing that both bolts allowed me to tighten them to their proper limit. The bike is now back together and running great! No more oil covered pants for me.

Thanks for the help!
